BRIGADIER ALLEN said that even if it were considered impracticable to adopt the complete American system, a number of points could with advantage be taken from it. In this connection he suggested that the security classification of documents might be shown in the top centre rather than in the top left or right hand corners where it was likely to be obscured. In discussion it was agreed in principle that, from the security point of view, the American system of marking documents was the more efficient, and that it should be recommended to the Standing Interdepartmental Committee on Security for adoption in civil departments producing documents likely to be seen by the Americans.
