2. ORGANISATION OF A CENTRAL INDEX OF LINGUISTS. (Previous reference: J.I.C.(46) 66th Meeting (0) Minute 3) THE SUB-COMMITTEE had before them a Minute* by the Secretary ,covering a copy of a Minute from the Director of Naval Intelligence suggesting that the desirability for a Central Index of Linguists should again be discussed, and a draft letter by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence in that sense. MR. HAYTER suggested that the draft letter to the Ministry of Defence should be approved. He informed the Sub-Committee that the money, recommended by the Scarborough Commission for the expansion of University facilities for teaching certain foreign languages, had been voted by the Treasury, but that the process of selecting professors and lecturers, and overcoming problems of accommodation would impose a considerable delay before any appreciable results would be forthcoming.
