BRIGADIER PAGE said that, as a result of subsequent consideration in the War Office, he was unable to agree to dispensing with the Military Attache appointments at Lisbon and Bangkok. Both Portugal and Siam had asked for considerable assistance from us in re-organising and re-equipping their armies, and he considered it would not be satisfactory, under the circumstances, for these countries to be covered from Madrid and Singapore, as had been previously suggested, or from Gibraltar. Continuing, BRIGADIER PAGE said that it might take about two weeks to obtain the necessary information from Beirut on which to make a decision regarding the proposed withdrawal of the Assistant Military Attache there.
