Probable Form and Scale of Attack against and Within the Anzam Region. Comments on J.I.C. Melbourne Report No: 51, 1953

1 Aug 1953

TOP SECRET Para. 4. 7. We consider it unlikely that the Soviet Union would be prepared to make available naval aircraft for operations in the Anzam region. In addition it is reported that the Chinese Navy is now training its own air force. Para. 16(a) 8. We agree that this form of attack is undoubtedly possible. However, we do not consider it should be regarded as a "threat" without giving consideration to the importance the enemy is likely to attach to the destruction of particular targets. Simultaneous attacks on all the harbours in the Anzam area are not a practicable operation.
