TOP SECRET (b) That, although the Russians have studied the major Allied amphibious assaults of the late war, they have had no experience of such operations, nor is there evidence that they have developed the necessary specialised techniques for them. (c) That they have the ability to launch a mass attack, including assault craft, in sheltered waters after 2 short sea passage on a comparatively lightly defended coastline in the traditional Russian fashion. (d) That subject to the proviso in para 11 they have the necessary landing craft, and could easily adapt the necessary shipping, to carry out a seaborne assault against a fortified and defended coast in the following approximate strengths in the dress shown: North brigade group up to a division Baltic 2 divisions Block Sea 1 division They are not at present however trained in the technique of launching such on assault.
