A volume of reports commissioned for the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain's intelligence organisations accordingly. A vast range of international and domestic issues are investigated and analysed in the JIC's reports. Subjects covered in this file include the military strength and preparedness of the Soviet Union and its satellites; combat operations and peace negotiations in the Korean War; proposals for and the possible repercussions of extending the war to China; arrangements to assist captured UN troops to escape from captivity in North Korea; arrangements for intelligence sharing between NATO members; access to captured German documents; photographic mapping of areas of strategic interest; and the influence of the communist Tudeh party in Iranian politics.
