B TOP SECRET ANNEX SOVIET AND SATELLITE WAR POTENTIAL, 1952–55 1. We examine below the military capabilities of the Soviet Union in the event of general war in 1952–55. POLITICAL FACTORS Political Alignments, 1952–55 Soviet Bloc 2. The following countries would be aligned with the Soviet Union:— Poland, Eastern Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Roumania, Bulgaria, Albania and China. (N.B.—The economic and military strength of China has been considered elsewhere* and is not dealt with in this paper.) Anti-Soviet Bloc 3.
