A volume of reports commissioned for the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. A vast range of international and domestic issues are investigated and analysed in the JIC's reports. Subjects covered in this file include the military strength and preparedness for war of the Soviet Union and its satellites; the communist threat in East Asia; peace negotiations in the Korean War; the dispute between the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia; plans for training British military personnel in escape and evasion; the treatment and exploitation of Soviet defectors; plans for strategic demolitions in Germany in the event of a major war; and the Argentine threat to the Falkland Islands.
