Chinese Comnunist Threat in the Far East and South East Asia

1 Jan 1951

A volume of reports commissioned for the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). The JIC was formed of representatives from the intelligence services, the armed services, and the Foreign Office. Its purpose was to assess military, security, and foreign policy requirements and coordinate Britain's intelligence organisations accordingly. A vast range of international and domestic issues are investigated and analysed in the JIC's reports. Subjects covered in this file include the probable course of a Soviet invasion of the United Kingdom; the intentions of Chinese communists in Korea and Southeast Asia; the British need for Russian-speaking personnel; information sharing with French forces in East Africa; the threat of peacetime and wartime sabotage in the UK; the strength of Soviet anti-aircraft defences; indications of Soviet preparations for war; the likelihood of a Soviet invasion of Yugoslavia; the rearmament of West Germany; and projected intelligence requirements following a Soviet invasion of Western Europe.
