TOP SECRET Copy No. 91 J.I.C.(50) 54 Circulated for the consideration of the Chiefs of Staff (Final) 11th July, 1950 CHIEFS OF STAFF COMMITTEE JOINT INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE THE LIKELY WARNING PERIOD IN THE EVENT OF AN ATTACK SOVIET ON HONG KONG AND THE POSSIBILITY OF THE UNION CREATING TROUBLE IN THE COLONY Report by the Joint Intelligence Committee As instructedø we have examined:(a) (b) the period of warning which might be expected in present circumstances of an impending attack on Hong Kong by the Chinese Communists; the possibility of the Soviet Union deliberately creating trouble in Hong Kong with the object of forcing the United Kingdom to withdraw forces from Malaya with consequent embarrassment to our position there.
