Scale and Nature of Initial Air Attack on the United Kingdom, 1957. Report by the Joint Intelligence Committee

1 Jan 1949

With the addition of some 7,000 to 8,000 skilled German Workers to the force employed in the Russian Aircraft Industry, skilled labour can in no way be considered ### bottle neck, especially in view of the high rate of dilution with unskilled labour, which, from experience in both this country and in Germany in the last war, is known to be practicable. We realise that in the past the Russian aircraft industry has concentrated mainly on the smaller types of aircraft required for ground attack and defensive roles, but nevertheless despite the complexity of modern heavy bombers, ### believe that the Soviet Union is building a Strategic Air Force and that it is well within, the capabilities of the Soviet aircraft industry to produce the moderate sized force we have indicated and have it in operation by 1957.
