Israeli Intentions in the Near Future. Report by the Joint Intelligence Committee

1 Jan 1949

TOP SECRET ANNEX ISRAELI INTENTIONS IN THE NEAR FUTURE INTRODUCTION 1. The state of Israel has now been recognised by the majority of nations, and a regularly constituted moderate Coalition Government has been established. 2. The policy of this Government will undoubtedly be to secur clearly defined frontiers for the new State and then to seek a period of peace in which to consolidate. 3. It appears likely that as a result of recent military successes the frontiers Israel regards as her right and wishes to obtain will be those of the whole of the former mandate of Palestine, at the time of handover by Great Britain in 1948.
