TOP SECRET ANNEX SCALE AND NATURE OF ATTACK AGAINST SEA COMMUNICATIONS Introduction 1. We have already appreciatedø that a sea and air offensive against Anglo-American sea communications would be undertaken by the Soviet Union concurrently with the following:(a) A campaign against western Europe to gain the Atlantic seaboard and close the Mediterranean. (b) An aerial bombardment of the British Isles, possibly using some weapons of mass destruction after 1950. (c) A campaign to seize control of the Middle East and the Suez Canal area.
