ANNEX I. PRESENT MILITARY STRENGTH OF FRANCE, BENELUX AND ITALY. In this Annex we estimate the strength of the armed forces which France, Belgium, Holland and Italy could deploy in Europe in 1948. We have assumed that the forces from the overseas possessions of these Nations will not be used at the outset in Europe, neither will forces raised in Europe by the Continental countries be sent overseas. FRANCE. ARMY. Standing Army (Europe) including annual call up under training) 200,000 men Trained reservists 1,200,000 men The annual call up is about 160,000 men.
