ANNEX. I RUSSIAN OPERATIONAL APPRECIATION. ASSUMPTION. We have taken into consideration our previous report entitled "Basic Assumptions for Planning."+ 2. In our previous reportø, entitled "Strategic Intentions of the Soviet Union", we concluded that:(a) The following will be undertaken simultaneously: (i) A campaign against Western Europe to gain the Atlantic seaboard in the shortest possible time and to close the Mediterranean. (ii) A sea and air offensive against the Anglo-American sea communications.
