TOP SECRET. ANNEX I SCALE AND NATURE OF INITIAL ATTACK ON THE BRITISH ISLES 1951. OPERATIONAL APPRECIATION. Assumptions. We have taken into consideration our previous report entitled "Basic Assumptions for Planning."* 2. In our revious report entitled "Strategic Intentions of the Soviet Union. "ø we concluded that :(a) The following will be undertaken simultaneously :(i) A campaign against Western Europe to gain the Atlantic seaboard in the shortest possible time and to close the Mediterranean.
