1 Jan 1948

ANNEX A. INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE POTENTIALITIES OF THE MIDDLE EAST COUNTRIES. We give below the individual capabilities of the Middle East as they are known to us at the present time. countries 2. TURKEY. (a) Navy. At present the fleet consists of :8 Destroyers 14 Submarines 95 Small craft for minesweeping and in-shore patrols etc. Although the morale of the Turkish Navy is high, it is lacking in tactical and technical proficiency. This is partly due to the fact that the Turkish Ministry of Defence is largely controlled by the Army, which predominates in Turkish military affairs.
