Turkey - Photographic Survey

1 Sep 1947

Draft Telegram From: Minister of Defence, London To: Joint Staff Mission, Washington. November, 1947. C.O.S.(W)..... subject is Air Survey of Turkey. Further to our C.O.S.(W) 504 dated 31st July, 1947. 2. Representatives of A.C.A.S.(Operations) and Military Surveys reported on return that no triangulation of sufficient accuracy on which to base a photographic survey of Turkey exists. They were informed, however, that the Turks had begun a new survey which would take ten years to complete. 3 We consider that it is important to begin the work as soon as possible in case Turks alter their decision or some new political development might arise to prevent advantage being taken of present Turkish attitude.
