Re-establishment of the Appointment of Military Attache Beirut

5. During the recent investigation into possible savings, the Minister at Beirut reported that he did not consider the Military Attache post there to be justifiable. Although the War Office did not wish to withdraw the Military Attache, they felt impelled to accept the Minister's recommendation. The Military Attache was, therefore, withdrawn in September. The Assistant Military Attache is also to be withdrawn in the near future, probably in November. 6. Events in the Middle East have recently taken a serious turn, and we consider that there are good reasons for reestablishing, on a temporary basis, an Attache post to cover Beirut and Damascus, This officer would represent all three Services.
