1 Sep 1947

ANNEX Comments on the report (J.I.C. (F.E.) (47) 5/3 by the Joint Intelligence Committee Far East, entitled "Armed Forces in the Far East". ANNEX A. NAVIES IN THE EAST INDIA 1. Paragraphs 1 to 4. We consider that mention should have been made of the ability of the Dominion of India to expand her navy in view of her ship-building capacity. We do not consider that the navies of India and Pakistan will be in a position to take part in any war for some considerable time. SIAM 2. Paragraph 6. The estimate given for the Royal Siamese Navy is agreed to, but we consider the last sentence should read "Few of the above vessels are in a seaworthy condition, other than the two corvettes and the minesweeper recently bought from the R.N.".
